Where Struggle
Becomes Success
Specialized tutoring that transforms reading challenges into confident achievements
Is This Program Right for My Child?
Many bright, capable children work incredibly hard — yet reading and spelling still feel exhausting. If you're wondering whether this program is the right fit, you're not alone.
- Does your bright child hate to read?
- Do they struggle with spelling, even after lots of practice?
- Do they guess at longer words or avoid reading out loud?
- Do they struggle to stay afloat in school, even with strong effort and support?
- Does your child have directionality confusion — mixing up left and right?
- Does learning feel harder for them than it should?
It could be dyslexia.

What Our Families Say
Real stories from real families who have experienced the transformation that comes with specialized reading support.
Jolene has been working with my son for a few years now. She is amazing! His confidence is up and he is making great progress! She uses a multi sensory teaching approach and it is just what he needed. If something isn’t working, she switches it up until he gets it. She has been a lifesaver for us and I can’t recommend Reading and Spelling S.O.S more!

Jolene is such an excellent tutor! Her upbeat and encouraging personality has a way of putting everyone with whom she comes in contact at ease, students and adults alike. She is a wealth of knowledge and experience and is happy to take the time to process and think through the most helpful resources and the best next steps forward. My high school son came into the process late in the course of his education, having had no help prior to the 10th grade, yet Jolene was quickly able to make him feel comfortable and relaxed. I loved hearing the random spurts of laughter that would erupt from time to time throughout the course of his tutoring with Jolene. She is so gifted, relationally and educationally, and has a way of making each session both fun and productive. Her confidence, kindness, and God-given aptitude for this kind of work is unmatched. I would gladly recommend her to anyone.

My son has been working with Jo for almost 2 years now and it has changed his life for the better. He was diagnosed with dyslexia in 2nd grade after struggling since kindergarten and his confidence was shattered. Since working with Jo he now enjoys reading, his comprehension is amazing, his grades are good, and his testing is where it needs to be. But the best part is seeing his confidence come back. He is now in fourth grade and is a completely different student from previous years. We are so thankful we found Jo when we did! She is the best out there! She is patient and kind and my son loves working with her. I can’t wait to continue to watch him grow. Thank you for everything Jo!!

When I first found out my son was challenged with dyslexia at the age of 13, Jolene took him under her wing with Barton Reading and Spelling and went through all 10 levels with him. When my daughter saw how much this was helping her brother read and spell, she requested working with Jolene as well. Jolene also tutored her for math. Jolene played an integral part in the success of my 2 young people graduating from High School with their Reading and math skills! When I discovered that dyslexia ran in my family, Jolene also helped me learn how to tutor my younger daughters.
Jolene is dedicated, fun to learn with, resourceful, and extremely talented with teaching young people and adults as well. I can’t say enough good things about Jolene.

My daughter was diagnosed with dyslexia in 2020. We were searching for tutors and started out with a different place for about a year. We were not seeing the progress and communication we were looking for. Luckily, we found Jolene! She instantly became our advocate with home and school. She has been an amazing supporter to my daughter and we have seen huge improvements. She went from reading to two years below grade level to at grade level. She just graduated the program and I couldn't have been happier with her progress. She isn't afraid to read out loud in school anymore and her confidence has become so much greater. Thank you so much, Jolene!

My daughter had been limping along in her math fact skills and retention as she has worked hard to overcome obstacles with dyslexia. We sought out Jolene for ideas of how to help her better grasp and retain multiplication facts. Jolene brought my daughter new, fun, and engaging ways to memorize facts through stories, visuals and games. By the end of my daughter's 5th grade year, she was proudly telling friends and family that math is her favorite subject. We can't thank Jolene enough for her sharing her gift of teaching in ways that help kids make great gains. I highly recommend her for your struggling student!

Jolene was so easy to work with and happily swooped in to help my son when I could no longer tutor him myself. Great communication is key, and Jolene has that in spades! I also appreciated the well organized homework she gave us to help reinforce her teaching sessions. I highly recommend her as a Barton tutor.

My eldest daughter started tutoring in June 2014 of her 7th grade year to get help with her reading. She has improved two grade levels! Her self-esteem and confidence has also greatly improved. My youngest daughter started tutoring twice a week in June 2014. She was behind in reading but not far enough behind for her to get that extra help in school. She is now reading at her grade level. Her confidence, independence, and self-esteem has taken off! Jolene does an amazing job with the children and has the patience and understanding to work with all of them. Sometimes my younger one was tired and cranky but Jolene calmed her down and still made it work. If I could recommend any tutor it would be Jolene. She is awesome and takes the time to give the children a great education. She is blessing many children by giving them the opportunity to show them that they can read and do it well.

I am so glad that I discovered Jolene. She has helped my son to read, comprehend what he is reading and spelling so much better. He actually liked his tutoring sessions. I highly recommend Jolene if you are tired of waiting for results from schools, and get the help you need immediately. This was an investment for our son, and we gladly paid it to make sure he was confident in his reading.

We cannot speak highly enough of Jolene, Jeremy and Reading and Spelling S.O.S and the life changimg impact they've had on our son. When we first sought their help, our son was struggling deeply with dyslexia-he was mixing up letters, couldn't retain spelling patterns and reading was a source of daily frustration and tears.
From the very beginning, the tutors were not only skilled and knowledgable but also incredibly patient and encouraging. They tailored their approach specifically to his learning needs, using methods that truly resonated with him and built his confidence step by step.
Today, our son not only is able to read-he loves reading. Watching him pick up a book with joy curiosity, and pride is somethimg we once thought might never happen. His progress has been nothing short of remarkable, and it has transformed not just his academic life but his overall self-esteem.
We are forever grateful to Jolene, Jeremy and Reading and Spelling S.O.S for their experise, compassion, and commitment. They didn't just teach our son how to read-they opened up a whole new world for him.

Jolene has been amazing connecting with my son tutoring him remotely for his dyslexia. Before COVID we were in person with a local tutor who started him in Barton, but was easily frustrated with his attention struggles. With COVID he switched to online and that was not working well for my son or the tutor and we ended up parting ways. Then I was referred to Jolene. I was skeptical that he could do well online but her guidance and patience with my son really made everything click for him and he has progressed amazingly. She also helped encourage me to explore medication for his ADD which has been a game changer for everyone. Jolene is very much an advocate for her students and has also helped me work with his school to make sure reading and writing are at his level. I highly recommend Jolene as a Barton Tutor. She has built skill and confidence in my son and he is flourishing in his academics among his peers.
